Will the free webinar for tonight (11.16.10) be recorded? I have a business meeting at the same time and really need to learn about FB. Any playback options for me? Thanks!

    Hi
    Your website is very interesting.
I’ve got something to share with you about what is happening with Youtube.
Up to now posting to youtube was free at least in appearance
People will realize that Youtube has a price.
    It’s not free.
I just realized that I shouldn’t rely too much on Youtube because they’re using my videos for their own purposes and POTENTIALLY HURTING MY BUSINESS.
I’m a commercial real estate broker and at the beginning I used to host my own videos, then when I saw just how easy it was with Youtube…just upload, and embed; I did all my video marketing with Youtube.
I was happy like a lot of others until last week.
A few days ago, I received a complaint from a prospective client saying that I was using profanity in my office space videos.
Let me tell you that profanity doesn’t blend too well with corporate real estate.
I thought this lady was a crackpot until I watched my own video.
Youtube had substituted my music with a rapper song saying things like “I really want to fuck that bitch”
On top of that and to make the mater even worst, they put adsense links on my video, links that lead to COMPETITORS.
So guess what, I’m going to all that trouble to advertise for the competition and I get complaints from people who don’t like profanity.
I have 139 videos on Youtube (been there since 2006), that was a lot of trouble to upload. The concept of free is very nice but often things aren’t really what they look like.

    • Don says:

I can’t say for sure, but it’s likely that you used copyrighted music in your video. When that happens, YouTube will sometimes change it out for music they have licensed. The solution for this is to not use any music that you haven’t actually written yourself or paid for a license to use in any of your videos.

And yes, they will put ads up on your videos. That’s how YouTube makes their money. That’s part of the tradeoff you are entering into as you work with YouTube – they give you exposure and bandwidth, and you agree to have your competitors’ ads shown on your videos. Most of the time, however, that tradeoff is worth it.

    Hey Don,

This Dropbox sounds great and very interesting, but how secure is information you are, presumably, storing at what sounds to be some remote location on the web. We deal with, among other things, very sensitive financial and other personal client information. And for photos, 2 gigs isn’t much…. any comments?

    • Don says:

They claim to be high-grade encrypted security. That said, I wouldn’t put your most sensitive data out on any public server.

I have invested in the inexpensive paid version, which gives me 50 gig of space, which handles my needs at this time.

    Hey Don,

Watching your live stream video from Perry Marshall’s Maui event. Your information on social media is the best I’ve heard yet as to how businesses can use it. You’ve articulated expertly some of the issues my customers complain to me about.

Your stuff is spot on and glad you presented in Maui.

  5. Jeff says:

Hey Don! I was wondering, do you consider Skype™ as Social Media? Because the Relationship-building on Skype REALLY pays off! What are your thoughts? :)

    • Don says:

It’s certainly part of the process and could be considered part of social media. The challenge is scalability – you can only communicate with one person at a time on Skype. However, it is a nice addition wherever you can.

  6. Suresh Rao says:

    Hi Don,

Thanks for your Online Video Creator”s Buyer’s Guide. Have just become your Follower on Twitter.

Have bought Zi8 Kodak HD Video Camera with Tripod & 16 GB Transcend SDHC Memory Card. Would like to buy Microphone for Self & the person being interviewed. From your guide, it is difficult to choose.

Can you please advise the best Microphone compatible with Zi8 to suit my above purpose.

    Thank You & Regards,

    • Don says:

Any of the microphones listed in the guide would work with your zi8. The key to recognize is that with microphones, you literally get what you pay for. So, the higher you’re willing/able to go with these the better your results.

I would start with either a wired or wireless lavalier microphone. You will also need to buy an adaptor that allows you to plug two mics into the system.
